Certain veins in your neck or chest have been examined.
Veins are blood vessels that transport the blood back to the heart.
A contrast agent is usually used in the examination. The contrast agent enables various tissues to be differentiated more clearly from one another. The contrast agent is sometimes injected straight into a superficial vein in your skin. If the vein being examined is deep inside the body, a tube is inserted into a vein. This tube is then pushed to the location being examined, and the contrast agent is injected through the tube.
An X-ray machine is then used to take images. This enables the shape and course of the veins to be viewed.
