ICD-Code T50.8: Poisoning: Diagnostic agents

You have been poisoned by a substance that is normally used in examinations.

Various substances are used for specific medical examinations. For example, various contrast agents are used in imaging scans. These make various tissues easier to see.

A substance can cause poisoning if, for example, too much of it is taken. The substance may also be administered or taken by mistake.

Various symptoms may occur due to poisoning with these substances. They may cause an allergic reaction, for example. Some substances can also cause kidney problems. When the kidneys stop working properly, this can cause too little urine to be excreted from the body, for example. Some of these substances can also trigger overproduction of hormones by the thyroid gland. Other symptoms are also possible, depending on which substance has caused the poisoning.
