This reduces friction between the tendon and its surroundings.Joints are encased in a joint capsule.The joint capsule contains synovial fluid. This enables the bones to slide easily past one another.
Fluid-filled cavities in a joint capsule or tendon sheath are also known as ganglion cysts. They can occur as a result of over-use and wear-and-tear.
These ganglion cysts may be visible externally, or they may be noticeable beneath the skin. This can also result in pain.
